Top picture. Jack Leach bringing a load of corn sheaves over Ash Bridge on the old A39. "Active" was the last cart horse to be used on Brandish Street Farm. (The new A39 bypassing Brandish Street was completed in October 1975.)
Lower pictures. Treshing at West Lynch Farm, c 1970. The threshed straw is being bound into small round sheaves for use in thatching. Arthur Cooksley, at the front of the photograph above and to the right, is 'nitching' or trimming the end of the sheaf, so that it is ready for use.
