The Site

The camp site is within the Exmoor National Park at Horner, a small hamlet of some nine
houses and two Tea Gardens (cream teas are delicious). The site, which forms part of the
Holnicote Estate one of the largest areas of land owned by the National Trust, is leased to
the Somerset County Scout Council. The site is bounded on the East, South and West by
an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and is an area of outstanding natural beauty
with wildlife.

There are footpaths leading from the site into Horner Woods, up to Dunkery Beacon and
onto the moors.

Three level and free draining fields which have the benefit of mains water and septic tank
drainage at disposal points. (Public Toilets are available in the village car park - see map).
The fields are on the banks of the Horner Water, a river running through the site. The ground
is very stony.

The three camping fields are :-

The South field which takes about 70 people; the East field which takes about 40 people
and the West field, which can be divided, takes about 130 people.

Hike Sites - Hike sites for overnight stops will be allocated as needed, usually at the top of
the east field. As the sites are designed to be self programming, there is no resident warden and users need to bring all their own equipment.

No dogs are allowed on the site
